I have been inspired this year by spending a week in Glastonbury with Shakti Sings a 140+ strong choir run by the exquisitely gifted and heartful Susie Ro Prater. Susie is equally talented in facilitating our large mixed ability choir and enabling us to learn loads of songs easily that sound great thanks to her gentle encouragement and guidance and in the depth of feeling of her compositions. She also has a beautifully expressive voice so if you get a chance to go to one of her gigs do go – what a wonderful woman she is!
I also spent a week at the Unicorn Voice Camp located in a field on the borders of Wiltshire and Somerset with wall to wall singing workshops led by the best teachers around from morning til night. What an amazing exhilerating and exhausting time we shared there.
Between the mid 80’s to 2001 I trained and qualified in Jazz and Music Workshop Skills at Goldsmiths College, developed and ran a wide variety of community music projects, specialising for a period in working with musicians with profound physical disabilities with Drake Music Project, ran a Music Department for a local authority adult education college and composed, arranged for and played with a variety of bands on keyboard and tenor sax, sang with Acappella group She Boom, and busked all over London and further afield with all women street band Blow Crazy.
I took a break from all this music work to concentrate on qualifying as a Transpersonal Psychotherapist and building up a private practice and I continue in this work. I have run occasional series of voice workshops over the last few years but the call to return to my musical roots is unmistakeable and I am really looking forward to hearing all our voices singing together as one as we share fully in this unique experience.
I hope to see, hear and enjoy your wonderful voice too so please join us.
